Happy Friday the 13th! Thanks to our awesome students for cooking breakfast for staff & students in the parking lot this morning! 🦅🧡🎉

Our 8th grade students are taking Keyboarding for one Quarter this school year. In the class, they are learning to use word processing, spreadsheet, and slideshow software as well as an introduction to the Adobe Illustrator software. Additionally, they are using keyboard covers to learn to find the correct keys on a keyboard without looking. Towards the end of this quarter, they began competing against each other for speed and accuracy. Congratulations to Jordan Shadden for winning the competition! Jordan's best score was 46 wpm at 100% accuracy. Nice work, Jordan!

The WBE entrance and aluminum frame doors are original to the structure. The years of use have left them needing frequent attention and repair by our custodial staff while also posing a security risk at times when they fail to operate correctly. Proposition 1 will replace these doors while also addressing an ADA compliance issue that exists with our current situation.

Proposition 2 of the November 7th Bond Issue will address our current Ag and shop space. This building has been a great asset to the district for a very long time but is unfortunately at the end of its useable life. Proposition two would provide a new space for these programs while also adding a space for construction trades.

History indicates that inflation will continue to rise in the coming years. This means that the costs of constructing these projects will only increase with each year they are delayed.

Uniontown USD 235 is excited to share that we are developing a 5-year strategic plan to continue to provide our school community with a common vision. We are in the process of developing 4-5 areas of focus and action steps for the next 5 years. The purpose of this survey is to gather your feedback regarding areas of focus and action steps that we should consider to continuously improve our schools for students, staff, and families.
Please take a few minutes to provide us with your anonymous thoughts and feedback. If you are not able to answer all of these questions, that is okay. Any suggestions and comments that you can provide are extremely valuable in helping us create our strategic plan.
Access the survey at- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6JTCJJS

The following link will take you to a video that helps you take your tax bill and translate that into an estimated tax impact of the bond. We are also happy to set up individual appointments to walk you through this if that is desired.

There will be a JH Parent Meeting for Basketball and Wrestling this coming Monday, October 9 @ 6:00 p.m. in the UHS Commons.

Storm shelters are an important step to ensure student safety. Unfortunately, sheltering in interior rooms or underground locker rooms has proved insufficient for the most devastating storms in communities across "Tornado Alley."

This week during "Real World Wednesday" in UHS Agriculture class students learned how to balance a check book. In a day and age where most people utilize online banking, we learned it's still a good practice to keep a register of transactions.
Students were given black check registers and a list of typical monthly expenditures and then asked to input each transaction followed by figuring their remaining balance.
In the photo senior Hayden Demott inputs a transaction and figures the account balance.
**FYI- it's homecoming week, so outfits have been festive!

This Friday we will be taking the JH/HS student body over to the stadium at 2:45 to watch the kickoff of the Homecoming game that starts at 3:00. Any student that rides the bus will be released at 3:25 from the stadium to get back to the building for bus pickups. All other students will be free to leave at that time as well. Please communicate with your student your wishes/ expectations related to transportation.

The bond issue will be presented in two propositions. The following graphic visually represents the possible outcomes. In short, Proposition 1 must pass for Proposition 2 to have the ability to pass. In you have questions, please reach out.

Opening: Uniontown HS Secretary- If you or someone you know would be interested in joining our team as a HS Secretary, please send a resume and cover letter to Robert Onelio, ronelio@uniontown235.org. This position for the most part follows the student schedule.
