Dear WBE Family,
Staying hydrated with water is crucial for elementary school students as it plays a vital role in their overall health and well-being. Proper hydration helps to improve focus, concentration, and cognitive function, which are essential for optimal learning and academic performance.
Encouraging children to drink enough water throughout the day at school can help keep them energized, healthy, and ready to learn. To support proper hydration among our students at WBE, each student has been provided with a "WBE" water bottle. While you are welcome to provide your child with a different water bottle, please ensure that it adheres to the following guidelines:
WBE Water Bottle Guidelines
- Must be see-through (No Glass)
- Prohibited from having flavor infusers or drink mixes
- Must have a spill-preventing lid
- Arrive at school empty
- Follow classroom procedures for filling bottles
- Return home for cleaning
Adhering to these guidelines will help to maintain the safety and well-being of our students while at school. The requirement for transparent, non-glass water bottles enables easy monitoring and minimizes the risk of accidents. By restricting flavor infusers and drink mixes, we uphold a clean and healthy environment for all students. The necessity of spill-preventing lids assists in avoiding disruptions in the classroom. Ensuring that water bottles arrive empty and following proper filling procedures promotes responsible water consumption throughout the day. Additionally, returning water bottles home for regular cleaning encourages good hygiene practices. We appreciate your cooperation in assisting us in creating a safe and healthy learning environment for all our students.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Principal, West Bourbon Elementary
Dear West Bourbon Elementary School Family,
As we come to the end of our first full week back at school, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past few days and express my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for entrusting us with your child's education and being a part of the WBE family.
This week has been filled with excitement, anticipation, and a sense of renewal as we welcomed our students back to the halls of West Bourbon Elementary for a full week of school. The energy and enthusiasm that radiated from the classrooms, playgrounds, and hallways were truly amazing.
Today we took time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of many of our students who earned exemplary scores on the Kansas State Assessments in reading, math, and science during the 2023-24 school year. These results not only reflect the hard work put in by our students but also highlight the excellent support and guidance they received from our incredible parents, teachers, and staff. We must resolve to improve on what we achieved as we take on the 2024-25 school year.
As we progress through this year together, I am excited to announce the introduction of a friendly competition that will add a spark of enthusiasm to our days ahead – The Outstanding Attendance Challenge! We believe that regular attendance plays a crucial role in a student's success, and this initiative aims to encourage and motivate our students to be present and engaged in their learning. A student’s best ability is their availability!
I invite all parents to join us in supporting and encouraging our students as they participate in this friendly competition. Together, let us instill in our children the value of consistent attendance and active participation in their education, for it is through these small steps that great achievements are made possible.
I am excited for all the adventures, discoveries, and accomplishments that lie ahead this school year. Thank you for being an essential part of the West Bourbon Elementary family. Here's to a fantastic year of teaching and learning!
Warm regards,
Dustin Miller

The Junior High Agriculture students took a quick field trip this morning to watch some cows get checked for pregnancy. A few of them even had the opportunity for some hands on experience.
Thank you to Kevin Gleason for hosting us and Zach Powell for teaching us the process.
Today is your last chance to participate in our bond survey if you are interested in doing so. Thanks, Vance
We still have some old UHS yearbooks for sale. Please e-mail Mrs. Sutterby at rsutterby@uniontown235.org to see if your graduation year is available.
Just three days left to provide your input about a potential bond issue via our survey. Please take a moment to share your thoughts.

Uniontown FFA has completed the pipe fence along 75th street along the East side of their sweet corn patch!
Thank you to Kolby Stock for his donation of material and time in completing this project. Between material and labor he donated well over $2,000 to our FFA chapter and school.
We would also like to thank Kevin Gleason for his donation of a thousand plus dollars worth of pipe to help complete this project.
Finally thank you to students Timothy Ames, Klara Stock, Heston Stewart and Jewel Endicott for jumping in on short notice to help with the installation.
Open House :
Thank you for visiting WBE this evening. We are looking forward to receiving your students at 7:30 in the morning!
1st Day (only):
If you want to walk your students in on their first day, you may. Please park in the east parking lot. Do not park in the circle drive where the buses unload. We ask you to give hugs and say encouraging words in the Commons Area. Please do not walk down the halls to their classrooms. We would also ask that you not linger. This often makes it more difficult for our staff to help your student. We will call you if your student continues to remain upset.
Drop Off Procedures:
We start allowing students to enter WBE at 7:30 am. You are welcome to sit in the parking lot before that, but please don’t leave any students at the building until a staff member opens the East Gym door.
You will enter the east parking lot via the gravel road (75th St.) by the softball field. You will enter the WBE parking lot in the SE corner (by the softball field), and drive west along the softball field before pulling alongside the gym. In turn, you will drop off your student at the NE corner of the gym where an attendant will be waiting.
If you intend to walk your student to the doors, park in the East Lot and bring your student to either the NE Gym door or the Main Entrance.
Pick Up Procedures:
If you are making changes to your student's transportation during the first week, please call the WBE office by 2:00 pm. At all other times during the school year, we ask that this be done by 3:00 pm, but would ask for extra time during this first week while transportation is new for so many.
If you are picking your student up, please note that pickups will happen at the East gym doors. This is the same location as the morning drop-off The main difference is that parents will travel through that line in the opposite direction. You will enter the east parking lot via the gravel road (75th St.) by the softball field, immediately turn to the right, and drive around the East parking lot. Eventually, you will turn back to the South where you will line up alongside the gym. Lining up in this way ensures that there is room for all parents to wait in the parking lot to pick up their students without that line backing up onto a road and impeding traffic.
You are allowed to walk up to the East Gym doors to pick up your student. We simply ask that you park in the parking lot. It is not allowable for you to park and tell or motion your student to walk to you in that lot. You will need to walk up to receive your students.
This process will be a bit slow in the beginning, but within a week or two, we should be able to get all students to their ride home within 10 minutes. We would ask for your patience with staff as they learn your vehicles and kids' names to make the process move as smoothly as possible. Thank you!
If you haven't already done so, we would love for you to take a minute to provide your input about a potential future bond issue in USD 235. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWtDhl66hDONhzgN3rqWvybYPDyylqIQ64_y3QnmFUz6O9wA/viewform
Open house tonight for all USD 235 students from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. JH/HS Fall Sports meeting will happen in the commons at 6:00 pm.
